Birthday Fun! | Rope For Hope

Birthday Fun! | Rope For Hope

Hello my beautiful peeps!

It's been a few days since I've last blogged. It's been a pretty crazy week but a great one!

Some of you may know, June 12th was my 23rd bday. I had quite the exciting day planned for Friday!

It all started off with a work meeting sipping on a delicious Venti Iced Coffee from Starbucks.

I had butterflies all morning. I was excited, nervous, happy and determined to get through the adventure I knew was just a few hours away.

At 12:30pm, the moment was here, I had arrived. I was at City Hall, Downtown Toronto. I had just registered and in just one hour, I was going to be rappelling down the 30 story building in honour of "Rope For Hope".

Rope For Hope is an event hosted by Make A Wish Foundation to help raise funds for their beautiful organization. The general public, celebrities and media personalities sign up and take the pledge to raise $1500.

If you are successful in raising $1500, you win yourself the opportunity to rappel down City Hall! As you may have guessed by now, I managed to raise MORE than my $1500 goal. With the help of my friends, family, followers and the community, I was able to raise $2200! (THANK YOU!!)

Once registration was complete, the waiting game began! The music was playing, the attendees were having a great time and the energy was simply amazing! I must admit, watching all the rappellers come down that very tall building had me even more excited to get up there and rappel myself!

As my scheduled time slot approached, I had the opportunity of meeting a fun, enthusiastic, positive, eager and determined girl named Casie Stewart. After a few minutes of chatting, we realized we had quite a few things in common, blogging being on top of that list! We realized we were scheduled to rappel together so we got all hyped up and ready to take on the world!

Up the elevator we go! Once we got off the first elevator, the wonderful Make A Wish Foundation staff informed us we were going HIGHER! Breathe in, breathe out! Off to the second elevator we go. Once we arrived to our final destination, 30 stories high - overlooking the beautiful city of Toronto, it felt surreal!

Training time! We got all harnessed up with the sexy rappelling gear and we were off to training camp! Training consisted of about 15 mins of getting familiar with the equipment and being comfortable with it on us. We did a mock up trial to ensure we had learned all the tricks and we were good to go!

For those of you who are afraid of heights, it gets better... We then had to climb up a ladder and get even higher up on the building. Once we got up there, the rappel was MINUTES away. Mind you, the view was breathtaking. To my left was the beautiful CN Tower - A view I NEVER get tired of seeing. Growing up in a small town in New-Brunswick, Toronto was always my "Dream City". After taking in the moment, the climbing crew notified me that I was up next.

The moment is here! I get all buckled up and it's showtime! My back is facing the city and the viewers down below now look like little ants. The instructor tells me to lean back as far as I can and to keep on getting my feet closer to the edge. At this point, I almost wanted to give up and go down the elevator. Thank god there was a photographer taking pictures of me, or else, I would have been in tears! I slapped on my fake smile and confidence and took the final few steps over the edge! I was now dangling from 30 stories and being held by what felt like two VERY small ropes.

The first few seconds of the rappel were a little freaky but then I told myself  "How amazing is this, take a moment to take it all in. This is an amazing opportunity and for such a great cause." A few moments later I could hear my friends cheering me on. About 7 minutes into it, my rappel was done.

I had survived and I felt GREAT! It was picture time and you betcha I was posing. After all, I need my bragging rights - LOL.

What an amazing opportunity this was! I will definitely be looking into doing this again next year! A BIG Thank You goes out to everyone who donated and supported me. To all the volunteers and staff that were involved in making this a successful event - Kudos to YOU!

Celebration drinks were in order after this big event! My friends organized for us all to go have drinks and cocktails at Boutique Bar on Church Street. We were well taken care of and we would like to thank Devon and Sebastien for the great hospitality we received!

After a great evening with amazing friends, it was off to dreamland for me!

I've added a few pictures of my bday shenanigans for you all to see.
